Final Thoughts on the ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 7800 XT OC Edition
The Radeon RX 7800 XT currently sits between the Radeon RX 7700 XT and Radeon RX 7900 GRE graphics cards on the AMD side and will directly compete with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4070 (non-SUPER). In our seven-game testing suite we saw it perform about 7% better than the RTX 4070 and the RX 7900 GRE is about 7.5% faster. But keep in mind the RX 7900 GRE was released well before this card.
With this type of performance you are looking at a very capable 1440p card. In our testing we saw an average of 118.48 FPS across our seven game test. This performance is without any type of FSR or upscaling tech used. This card could also push a 144 Hz display at 1080p no problem.
I think if you are going to want to game at 4K your only real recourse with this card is to take advantage of FSR. AMD has done a pretty good job at getting support for FSR 3.0 and as of writing this review it is currently available in 60 games. Of course that list gets larger when it comes to FSR 2.0 and you saw that performance gains that gave us in this review.
When it comes to the ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 7800 XT OC Edition it has to be one of the best RX 7800 XT’s out there. First you are getting that factory overclock, which will get you a few more FPS in games. Then you have the design and quality you expect from a TUF Gaming card with its aluminum shroud, triple-fan cooling solution, dual heatsink stack and full-cover metal backplate. In our testing this card actually was the best out of our test group in terms of cooling performance, although it was a bit louder than others. Luckily you do have the BIOS switch to loosen the fan curve a bit, but you won’t have to worry about this card getting hot at all.
Currently this card is selling at my favorite online retailer for $519.99, which is only a $20 premium over the MSRP of the RX 7800 XT. That makes is 100% worth it for the better looks, overclock, and that awesome cooling. Although you can get a Radeon RX 7900 GRE for only $10 more, which is something to consider.
