Final Thoughts
As this review is coming out well after the initial launch of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 and when we really have a clear picture of the entire RTX 40 series I do think overall the RTX 4070 is a pretty decent card. It is a 70-class card that is going to give you about the same performance as a RTX 3080, but it is $100 cheaper in most cases. I think for the average mid-range gamer the RTX 4070 hits that sweet spot in how much they want to spend on a graphics card and performance.
Talking about performance in our testing we saw that card average around 150 FPS in our 7-game test suite and around 109 FPS at 1440p in the same 7-game test suite. This is with the settings completed maxed out! With this type of performance this is going to be a great card for high frame rate gaming at 1080p and solid (over 100 FPS) gaming at 1440p. The narrow memory bus on the RTX 4070 causes 4K performance to take a bigger hit, but you can totally game at 4K and over 60 FPS if you turn down some settings. Of course the RTX 4070 is not marketed as a 4K gaming card at all.
On top of just raw performance you are going to get some great NVIDIA-specific features. One of our favorites is the new DLSS 3.0, which is currently only available on RTX 40 series cards. This will allow you to play games at higher resolutions with better performance as DLSS 3.0 renders the scene at a lower resolution and then upscales it with no visible quality loss. To give you an example of what this can do we ran the DLSS feature test built into 3DMark. It renders different scenes and without DLSS 3.0 on we rendered a 4K scene with an average FPS of 23.54. Turn DLSS 3.0 on and it renders the same scene at 86.06 FPS! Quite impressive!
When it comes to the EX Gamer card from Galax, first off it is slightly overclocked so it should edge-out other RTX 4070 models that are not overclocked by a couple FPS in games. On top of that this card is white which just looks awesome especially if you are going to be installing it in an all-white case. The RGB lighting on the fans and side of the card are going to add to that as well. It is also nice to see GALAX go with the classic 8-pin PCI-Express connection for power and you do have a metal backplate.
Another really cool thing about this card is that it has a mobile app! You can fully control the card from overclocking it, adjusting fan speeds, and even changing the RGB lighting from your phone! The mobile app also gives you a live display of stats of the card, which is great to see especially if you have your phone on a display on your desk.
Right now you can pick this card up at our favorite online retailer for $589.99. This price is quite good as many overclocked RTX 4070’s with this level of RGB lighting are well over $600. Overall ThinkComputers gives the GALAX GeForce RTX 4070 EX Gamer Graphics Card a 10 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
