Back in 2020 we took a look at Patriot’s Viper VPR100 NVMe solid state drive, which was the first M.2 NVMe solid state drive to feature RGB lighting. Well Patriot is back with a Gen4 drive featuring the same cool RGB lights, the VPR400! From what we know this is the first Gen4 drive to feature RGB lighting. Beyond the bling of the RGB lighting on this drive Patriot is making use of the InnoGrit IG5220 DRAMless controller with Micron 176-layer TLC NAND flash, giving this drive sequential read and write speeds of 4600 MB/s and 4400 MB/s respectively. This is the same configuration we saw on the ADATA XPG ATOM 50 drive. Let’s take a look and see what this drive is all about!
Special thanks to Patriot for providing us with the Viper VPR400 RGB Gen4 NVMe Solid State Drive to review.
Features & Specifications
Packging
The Viper VPR400 comes in a very nice retail box. On the front we have a picture of the drive as well as a list of speeds and our capacity, which is 1TB. Patriot will also offer this drive in a 500GB version. Flipping the box over to the back there is a simple list of speeds and capacities in a handful of different languages.
The front part of the box sort of opens up like a book so you can get a better look at the drive and learn more about it. Opening the box up, inside you’ll find the drive nicely protected in a clamshell-style package.
