When it comes to PC storage we are really in a good place right now. Previously were were bottlenecked by the speed of SATA ports, but now that we have access to PCI-Express for storage. With that we are seeing many budget-friendly drives get up to 5000 MB/s which is just incredible. One such drive is the NM710 drive from Lexar. This drive makes use of a Maxio Technology controller teamed with 176-layer TLC NAND and does not have a cache chip. This combination will produce sequential speeds of 5000 MB/s read and 4500 MB/s write, which no one is going to complain about. Let’s take a look at this drive and see what it can do!

The Lexar NM710 comes in a nice retail package. On the front there is a picture of the drive and it lets us know the speed as well as the capacity. We have a 1TB version here, but it is also available in 500GB and 2TB versions.
Flipping over to the back some of the main features of the drive are detailed and there is a little window so you can see the drive.
Opening the box up you’ll find the drive in a clamshell-style package. There is also a small screw, which is nice since I always tend to lose the ones that come with my motherboard.
