We’ve been fans of WD’s My Passport portable hard drives for years. These drives are a great companion for your Ultrabook where hard drive space is limited and are extremely reliable as well. WD’s latest iteration of the drive is the My Passport Ultra, which is a USB 3.0 portable hard drive. They were nice enough to send us over their Metal Edition, which has a very sexy Aluminum design. Not only is this going to look great, but it will add extra protection to the drive as well. The drive features a very fast USB 3.0 connection so your transfers will take no time at all. The drive comes with the WD SmartWare Pro backup software so you can setup and schedule local as well as cloud backups with no problem at all. Let’s take a look at the My Passport Ultra Metal Edition and see what it can do!
Special thanks to WD for providing us with the My Passport Ultra Metal Edition 1TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive to review.
Packaging
The WD My Passport Ultra Metal Edition comes in a very nice retail package. The front is actually partly clear so you can take a look at the drive before you buy it. The front also lets us know the capacity of our drive which is 1TB. The WD My Passport Ultra Metal Edition comes in 1TB, 2TB and 3TB versions.
Flipping over to the back of the package it goes over some of the main features and backup software.
Getting everything out of the box we have the WD My Passport Ultra Metal Edition drive, a USB 3.0 cable, and user’s guide. You will notice there is no power adapter with the drive. This is because it will draw power from the USB 3.0 connection. This is pretty common with these types of drives.
