Final Thoughts

If you haven’t noticed by now I am a huge fan of portable solid state drives. I am constantly on the go and I need fast storage to back up my video content, transfer files, and on the occasion have a fast game drive! Lexar definitely gives us a fast drive with the ARMOR 700 as it is a USB 3.2 gen 2×2 drive giving us speeds of up to 2000 MB/s. In our testing we saw speeds right up to the specifications. It was also nice that the included USB-C cable comes with a USB-A adapter for older systems.

Another thing to consider is durability. You are going to be constantly pulling this drive out, possibly having it on a camera rig, and taking it out of the normal office setting. With the ARMOR 700 Lexar has wrapped the drive in a rubber coating, which not only will protect the drive, but also gives you a better grip on the drive and makes it so it won’t fall out of your pocket. On top of that the drive is IP66-rated so it is 100% dust tight and gives you water resistance.

The drive comes formatted for both Mac and Windows so there really is no setup beyond just plugging it into your system. Lexar’s DataShield software comes with the drive if you want to encrypt anything of set up backups.

Right now the 2TB version of the drive that we reviewed here today is selling at our favorite online retailer for $254.99, which I feel is a bit high as you can get the SanDisk Extreme Pro for about $20 cheaper. Overall ThinnkComputers gives the Lexar ARMOR 700 Portable Solid State Drive a 9 out of 10 score.
