The Camera’s & Base Station
As I mentioned we received the 2-pack of the Solo Pro, but you can also get it in a 4-pack as well. The camera units are not all that large with official dimensions of 8.7cm(3.43″) X 4.7cm(1.85″) X 5.9cm(2.33″). They are all white with a black face on the front.
On the front of each unit you’ll find your camera, 10 high power IR LEDs, 3 high power white LEDs, microphones, and sync and power buttons. The camera is capable of 2.5K (2560 x 1440) video at 15 frame/sec.
On the top of the unit there is a little compartment that houses your USB-C connection. There is where you’ll charge each unit. These are wireless units so all you have to do is charge them up and you’ll be good to go. SpotCam tells us that the battery will last for up to 6 months, then you’ll get an alert that you’ll have to charge them up.
On the bottom of the unit is a 1/4″-20 thread, so you could easily mount these on a tripod or any type of stand that has a 1/4″-20 screw. The back of the unit has a concave section, this is actually how you’ll mount the camera, more on that in a bit. There is also a speaker back here, as the camera supports two-way audio.
Each unit comes with an omni-directional base which is magnetic on both sides. This allows you to connect it to the unit itself and then stick it on any piece of metal. Don’t have a piece of metal? SpotCam includes metal base plates that you can easily screw into your wall etc.
The base station is what each camera unit will connect to and then it will connect back to your router via a wired connection as there is an Ethernet port on it. The base station is a plug-in device so you simply plug it into an open outlet and you’ll be good to go. SpotCam says the camera units will remain connected up to 50 meters (164 feet) away from the base station. The base station also has a microSD slot on the side for local recording. You will have to provide your own microSD card though.
