Kingston now has a full line of solid state drives to offer to consumers. We have already taken a look at their HyperX Predator PCI-Express solid state drive on the high end and they have their HyperX Fury, which is more entry level. Filling in the mid-range is the HyperX Savage, which effectively replaces the HyperX 3K solid state drive. The drive is powered by the Phison PS3110-S10 quad core, eight-channel controller that is the same controller that we saw on Corsair’s Neutron XT drive. The drive is also Kingston’s fastest SATA-based solid state drive with sequential read and write speeds of 560 MB/s and 530 MB/s respectively. Will this be the solid state drive to get in 2015? Read on as we find out!
Special thanks to Kingston for providing us with the HyperX Savage 240GB Solid State Drive to review.
Packaging
The HyperX Savage solid state drive comes in Kingston’s typical retail packaging. On the front there is a photo of the drive and it also lets us know the capacity and the speeds of the drive. The HyperX Savage comes in capacities ranging from 120GB all the way up to 960GB, we received the 240GB version.
Flipping the box over it gives us some information on the drive and also lets us know what all comes inside the box.
We actually received the SSD upgrade kit from Kingston which comes with quite a lot. Getting it all out of the package we have the HyperX Savage solid state drive, 7mm to 9.5mm adapter, 3.5-inch mounting bracket, USB 3.0 enclosure, multi-bit screwdriver, SATA cable, mounting screws, Acronis True Image HD serial code and a HyperX sticker.
Obviously you don’t need to but the upgrade kit if you don’t want to, you can buy the HyperX Savage as a single drive only.
