Testing & Final Thoughts on the MelGeek MADE68 Pro
I’ve been using this keyboard as my daily driver for the past few weeks now and I have to say I really like it. When I think about this keyboard the word “snappy” comes to mind because this keyboard just feels fast. Magnetic Hall Effect keyboards really give you the most customization and speed when it comes to gaming keyboards and the MADE68 Pro has all of those cool customizations that you would want.
The first of which is just setting your actuation point. This means that you can accurately set how far down a key is pressed before it is actuated. This leads to Rapid Trigger, which resets the switch when the key moves upwards after a keystroke. This allows you to release and repeatedly press keys more quickly. This also gives you the ability to have Dynamic Keystroke (DKS). This allows you to set multiple actions for a single keystroke depending on how far you press it down and how much you let it come back up. This has evolved into the latest feature which is Snap Tap. On a normal gaming keyboard if you press A and D at the same time it will not register anything, which causes you to stop in-game. You have to essentially let go of one of the keys for the other to be registered. With Snap Tap it will register the last input as the priority, so you could still be pressing down A then quickly press D and it will register that as movement. This allows for more responsive counter-strafing in fast-paced FPS games. Now keep in mind there are many different magnetic hall effect keyboards out there and most offer setting your own actuation point, but not all have Rapid Trigger, Dynamic Keystroke, or Snap Tap. The fact that this keyboard has everything is quite impressive!
For those wondering what it sounds like to type on this keyboard here is a typing test.
Now I do have to say that it was a bit odd for MelGeek to send us the keyboard with switches that are not going to be in the final version of the keyboard. Having a different switch gives an entirely different feel and sound to the keyboard, so honestly this sound test is pointless for those looking to pick the keyboard up.
When it comes to lighting on the board the real star of the show is the lightbar on the top-edge of the keyboard. Unfortunately it is only a solid white light and you cannot configure it in any way. While the rest of the keyboard does have per-key RGB lighting it is barely visible as we do not have any type of see-through legends and barely any space between the keycaps.
Like most MelGeek keyboards they have brought together solid materials and components for a great pre-built keyboard. There are only a couple of other magnetic hall effect keyboards on the market right now that have as many features as what the MADE68 Pro has. On top of that this keyboard not only feels good, but is going to look pretty awesome sitting on your desk. MelGeek is launching this keyboard on Kickstarter today with prices starting at $99! Overall ThinkComputers gives the MelGeek MADE68 Pro Rapid Trigger HE Keyboard a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
