Back at the end of 2021 we took a look at Crucial’s P5 Plus Gen4 NVMe Solid State Drive. It was actually Crucial’s first Gen4 drive and we liked it enough to give it a 9 out of 10 score. When the drive initially launched it did not come with a heatsink, so if you planned on using the drive on a motherboard without a heatsink or in a PlayStation 5 you were out of luck. Well, Crucial is now offering a heatsink version of the drive for all of those who may want to use it in those situations. This drive is a 100% in-house drive from Crucial so the controller as well as the NAND are made by Crucial / Micron. So we have Micron’s 176-layer TLC NAND matched with their proprietary NVMe controller. Crucial rates this drive with sequential speeds of 6600 MB/s read and 5000 MB/s write. Let’s see what it can do!
Special thanks to Crucial for providing us with the P5 Plus (Heatsink) Gen4 NVMe Solid State Drive to review.
Specifications
Packaging
The P5 Plus comes in Crucial’s typical retail packaging. On the front we have a picture of the drive and it does let us know the capacity, which is 2TB. Crucial will be offering this drive in a 1TB capacity as well.
Flipping over to the back there is a list of features in a handful of different languages.
Getting everything out of the box you’ll find the drive itself as well as a user’s guide.
