Final Thoughts

The NVIDIA RTX 40 Super series cards are simply a refresh of the current RTX 40 series cards, so obviously there is not as much excitement behind these cards as a new series or architecture launch. You are however going to get better performance and in most cases price than what NVIDIA initially launched back in 2022. And for some who may not have been wanting to upgrade back then, these new cards bring a breath of fresh air into the aging RTX 40 lineup.

NVIDIA went ahead and used the AD103 silicon for the RTX 4070 Ti Super. This is actually the same chip that power the RTX 4080. The main reasons behind this is that NVIDIA maxed out the AD104 silicon on the original RTX 4070 Ti and the AD104 can only support 12GB or 24GB of VRAM, not the 16GB that you are getting with this card. Moving to the AD103 brings you more cores with a total of 8448 CUDA cores, 268 Tensor cores, 66 RT cores, 262 TMUs, and 96 ROPs. Like I mentioned you get that VRAM upgrade from 12GB to 16GB and the memory bus is wider at 256-bit. With these upgrades this card should provide a nice bump in performance over the original card, something that was not as apparent in our review of the RTX 4080 Super.

In our testing we saw very strong 1440P performance is great performance at 4K. At 1440P you’ll be able to max out your settings and easily be able to achieve well over 100 FPS. Our average FPS across our 7 game testing suite was 144.6, which means you can easily push a high refresh rate 1440P display with this card. At 4K you should still expect to get over 60 FPS in most titles, while you may have to turn some settings down in more demanding titles. When we compare this card to the original RTX 4070 Ti we saw about 7% better performance at 1440P and about 12.5% better performance at 4K. Keep in mind that this card is effectively replacing the RTX 4070 Ti in the product stack. Once the stock of current RTX 4070 Ti cards are gone, NVIDIA will not be making any more.

On top of just raw performance you are going to get some great NVIDIA-specific features. One of our favorites is the new DLSS 3.0, which is currently only available on RTX 40 series cards. This will allow you to play games at higher resolutions with better performance as DLSS 3.0 renders the scene at a lower resolution and then upscales it with no visible quality loss. To give you an example of what this can do we ran the DLSS feature test built into 3DMark. It renders different scenes and without DLSS 3.0 on we rendered a 4K scene with an average FPS of 34.37. Turn DLSS 3.0 on and it renders the same scene at 118.44 FPS! Quite impressive!

At this performance level enabling real-time ray tracing is definitely viable as you have the RT cores and the performance hit is not going to be as extreme as with lower-powered cards. NVIDIA is still the top dog when it comes to ray tracing performance and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. On top of just the tech itself, NVIDIA has really worked with publishers to get these features in games, most of the time at launch. So you are not guessing if a title will support RTX or DLSS.

When it comes to Gigabyte’s Gaming OC card specifically I think they have done a pretty good job overall. The card is pretty beefy, but is not in any way a massive card. The triple fan cooling solution and two large heatsinks with heatpipes do a great job at keeping the card nice and cool. The fans themselves were a bit louder that some other solutions that we’ve tested though. The card has a full-cover metal backplate and you do get some nice RGB lighting. You can’t forget about the factory overclock either, which while is only 45 MHz overclock it will give you a few more FPS in games.

The MSRP for the RTX 4070 Ti Super is $799, which is the same price as what the original RTX 4070 Ti launched at. Although currently the OG card is selling for around $750. Gigabyte will be asking a $50 premium for this card as it can be found for $849.99 at our favorite online retailer. I think that what you are getting with this card can justify the $50 premium. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Gaming OC Graphics Card a 9 out of 10 score.
