Final Thoughts
At the beginning of this review I told you that I was moving from a 34-inch ultrawide to this 49-inch ultrawide. Over time with the 34-inch I just felt like I needed more screen real estate and with the 49-inch I get that. With a resolution of 5120 x 1440 I can easily have two full 2560 x 1440 windows or three 1706 x 1440 windows. For the most part I go with the ladder, it is basically like I am running three separate monitors, but without any borders! This is extremely useful when it comes to productivity as with three windows up I can have what I am working on in the center and two other windows with maybe notes or social media on each side. This really makes it so I don’t have to switch between windows, everything is up and right in front of me.
On the gaming side, gaming in full 5120 x 1440 glory is pretty awesome for the games that support that resolution. I played many hours of Cyberpunk 2077 on the SUW49DA! It was such a great and immersive experience. With such a wide and curved display you really feel like you are in the game that you are playing. I would only suggest playing open-world and non-competitive games at the full resolution. When playing Apex Legends I play with a 1440p borderless window in the center of my screen. This makes it so I am not moving my head around to see what is going on. This also gives me space on each side of the window for other things like a stream or tutorial. The display supports both FreeSync and G-SYNC so if you have an AMD or NVIDIA graphics card you are covered.
If you can find 32:9 content it looks absolutely stunning on this display. It really makes the SUW49DA a good candidate for a standalone display say in a dorm room or office where you are not only using it for productivity, but also media consumption. I also like that Viotek includes a remote. This makes switching inputs and changing settings much easier than using the buttons on the monitor itself.
There is not a whole lot to not like about the monitor. Viotek is known for not being as expensive as other brands so you don’t have the fit and finish you might see on some of those displays. I don’t think many people are really worried about that though. A USB hub and software control for the OSD / settings would have been nice.
At the end of the day this is not the best gaming or productivity monitor, but it is going to be one of the best for both. You have massive screen real estate which is great for productivity, but you also have a 120 Hz refresh rate for gaming. I would highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking for a display over 34-inches. Right now you can pick it up at our favorite online retailer for $921.05. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Viotek SUW49DA 49-inch Super Ultrawide Curved Monitor a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
