Performance Testing
We will be testing both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios as well as the local Ethernet connection on the RT2600ac. We will be using LAN Speed Test, each test is run for 5 minutes. Our first test is the Ethernet connection.

Now for the wireless. Our client machine features the Killer AC Wireless (2×2) card. Our first round of tests is on a closed network. So all we have connected to the router is our laptop and our host computer (Ethernet) running as the server for our speed test. We will be testing wireless speeds from three different locations in my apartment. My apartment is in a very old building so the walls are thick and made of concrete. Typically I barely get wireless service in my kitchen. Here are the three different locations:

  • Location 1 – 2 feet from the router
  • Location 2 – In my bedroom (through 1 wall)
  • Location 3 – In the kitchen (through 2 walls)

Next we connect the router as our main router on our network. We connect all of our wireless devices and local machines. During this test I have my Amazon Fire TV stick streaming Netflix, my main PC streaming YouTube, my iPhone streaming music, and I have a webcam running at all times. This really should test the MU-MIMO technology of the router. Again we test from 3 different locations:

  • Location 1 – 2 feet from the router
  • Location 2 – In my bedroom (through 1 wall)
  • Location 3 – In the kitchen (through 2 walls)
