Cooler Master Caliber R3 Gaming Chair Overview
With the Caliber R3 assembled we can get a closer look at it and its features. First off we received the black colorway, which is mostly black and grey with Cooler Master purple stitching. The purple version of the chair has purple around the outside edges, while we of course have black on ours.
Starting with the base of the chair you have the pretty standard 5-point steel base with plastic swivel wheels. These wheels move around just fine on hardwood as well as carpet. The chair uses a precision class 4 gas lift, which gives support for up to 330 lbs. There is a small lever under the chair that allows you to set the height of the chair as well as lock the tilt.
One thing that is very noticeable is the thicker seat base on the Caliber R3. Compared to the Caliber R2, Cooler Master has increased the thickness from 9cm to 10.5cm. This increases support and durability, and should allow for longer work / play sessions. Right on the side of the chair you’ll find another small lever that allows you to recline the chair. This chair supports reclining up to a 180-degree angle so you can basically lay flat in the chair. This means you can fully relax in the chair!
The armrests have a sort of soft-touch feel to them. Cooler Master calls these “2D armrests” as you can adjust them vertically as well as swivel them in or out. There is a small button under each arm rest that allows you to adjust the vertical position and you easily swivel them. When swiveling them, they will simply lock into place. Unfortunately there is no adjustment to move the arm rests forward or backwards, but I don’t think that will be an issue for most people.
The back rest of the chair has a pre-installed lumbar support cushion. This as well as the rest of the chair is breathable PU-faux leather. The interesting thing about the lumbar support is that it is made of memory foam, not just a normal dense foam. This allows it to dynamically contour to your body. The back-rest section of the chair has a reinforced steel frame structure. Looking at it from the back we can see that it has an all-black design and there is a very nice black stitched Cooler Master logo towards the top. We can also see that the lumbar support is held into place with simple straps. On the head rest section there is another stitched purple Cooler Master logo.
Cooler Master has also included an optional head rest pillow. Like the lumbar support this is made of memory foam. This again will allow it to dynamically contour to your head. It also has a smaller stitched Cooler Master logo.
