Usage & Final Thoughts
I’ve been using the Caliber R3 for about two weeks now and I have to say I am very impressed with it. To be honest after reviewing a handful of gaming chairs over the years I feel many of them are basically the same. Cooler Master has definitely made the Caliber R3 standout from the pack and there are many different reasons why.
I would say one of the biggest things is that they’ve used memory foam on both the lumbar support and head rest. Typically gaming chairs use a standard foam here, which ends up being stiff and not all that comfortable. With memory foam it is going to dynamically contour to your body, which not only is more comfortable, but also provides the support that you need.
Another thing that I really liked about this chair was the actual synthetic performance PU material Cooler Master is using on the chair. Many gaming chairs use very cheap PU was at times can feel a lot like plastic and just very cheap. Here was have quality PU that feels good and is breathable. Cooler Master has also increased the size of the seat base cushion. This again aids in comfort and just makes it feel like you sort of sink into the chair.
It also has to be said, but out of all the gaming chairs that I’ve reviewed this one was the easiest to assemble. Cooler Master has made it so almost all the bolts you use are the same size and the instructions are very easy to follow. I had this chair together in about 20 minutes.
If there was anything I would change about this chair it would be to add a bit more cushioning on the sides of the seat base. There is not a ton of cushioning there and after long work / gaming sessions I felt a bit or irritation on my thighs. Maybe I sit at a wider stance than most, but having the same memory foam here that is on the lumbar support would have been a definite game-changer.
