Dockcase Pocket Smart 2230 M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure Overview
The Pocket Smart is quite a small device. The official dimensions are 43.5 x 43.5 x 15mm and it only weighs in at 45g. So you are easily going to be able to put this in your pocket or throw it in a laptop bag / backpack. The top of the enclosure is made of tempered glass and houses the screen, more on that in a bit.
On one side of the enclosure you’ll find a USB Type-C port. This enclosure is USB 3.2 gen 2 so you’ll see speeds of up to 1000 MB/s depends on your drive. There is also a small cut-out for you to use the included lanyard. On the opposite side there is a button that allows you to navigate the screen.
Besides the tempered glass on the top of the enclosure the rest of it is made of aluminum. The back is actually designed as a heatsink of sorts to help with cooling the drive you install inside.
Opening up the drive is pretty easy. Using the supplied screwdriver remove the screw on the back of the drive and then slide the back off. This will reveal the inside of the enclosure where you’ll find the M.2 2230 slot and other components. There is also a thermal pad on the on the backside of the panel you removed to get into the drive. This will help with thermal transfer.
