Initial Overheating
Before we get into testing I did want to mention the overheating and thermally throttling we initially experienced with this drive. Many E26-based drives we’ve seen do have some type of active cooling, but of course this drive just has the heatsink. If you do not have some type of air flowing over this drive it will overheat and thermally throttle as you can see in the ATTO Disk Benchmark test below.
We use a test bench for testing M.2 SSDs, which is obviously not what most people will be running these drives in. I went ahead and put a simple case fan over the drive and to my surprise it did not overheat at all. It ran through the ATTO Disk Benchmark test without any issues. So just be sure you install this drive in a system with proper airflow.
