Setup & General Usage
When it comes to using the RT100 you can use it in three different ways: Wired, Bluetooth, or 2.4 GHz wireless. For wired mode make sure the switch at the top of the keyboard is set to off and plug in the included USB cable and Windows will automatically recognize the keyboard. One thing that is cool about the included USB cable is that the end has a small LED on it to let you know that it is powered. When in USB mode the keyboard will also charge as well.
To use the 2.4 GHz dongle plug it into an open USB port in your PC. Then flip the switch on the top of the keyboard to “On”. Press FN + R on the keyboard and it will enter 2.4 GHz mode and connect to the dongle.
Connecting via Bluetooth is very similar. With the top switch set to “On”, press FN + either Q, W, or E for 3 seconds. This will put the keyboard in pairing mode and you’ll easily be able to pair your device to it.
As I mentioned this keyboard makes use of EPOMAKER’s Sea Salt Silent switches. Here is what it sounds like to type on this keyboard.
The Screen
When you power on the keyboard whether you are in wired or wireless mode the little screen will turn on if you have it installed of course. This screen shows a GIF or image, the time, date, battery level, how the keyboard is connected and has places for temperature and CPU usage.
You can easily change the picture that is being displayed by selecting your own or going to the “Share” section in the software and looking through different animations. The time on the screen seems to only be able to be displayed in a 24 hour format and I was never able to get CPU usage readings to work. The software also allows you to “Sync” system information for the CPU usage, but it would never do anything. For reference I was using the keyboard on an AMD system.
The screen is definitely cool, but I do wish there was a bit more customization and it seems the software does not exactly work correctly. Looking at YouTube videos and on Reddit it does not seem like anyone can get the temperature reading to work. The screen definitely helps when you are connecting the keyboard as it lets you know what mode you are in.
Software
The RT100 has a “driver” which will allow you to reprogram the keyboard, change what is displayed on the screen, and set the lighting. Opening the driver up we get an overview of the keyboard and you can select a key and fully reprogram it. There are a total of 3 layers you can use. The FnSetting is very much the same. It allows you to set what each key does then the FN key is pressed.
Macro is a full-on macro editor where you can easily create and save macros. Under the screen tab you can control what is shown on the screen and all of the settings for it are there.
The Light tab is where you’ll find all of the RGB settings for the keyboard. There are a handful of different lighting effects to choose from. Finally under share you can view EPOMAKER’s community of user-created lighting effect, animations, settings, and macros.
When it comes to the lighting since we do not have see-through legends the lighting is only going to show between the keycaps.
