Standing Desk S450 Overview & Usage
Now that we have the desk all together let’s take a closer look. The first thing that I wanted to point out was how nice the wood color desk is. To be clear even though this desktop looks like some nice finished reclaimed wood, it is MDF wood. While many people would prefer real wood MDF obviously is less expensive and for a desktop it definitely gets the job done.
So even though we have MDF the desktop feels incredibly solid and the finish is great. It also does not feel cheap or that it would get scratched easily like pretty much all Ikea desktops do. Towards the top edge of the desk you’ll find two pre-drilled cable routing holes with grommets installed. These of course will make cable routing easier and help keep the desk nice and organized.
Talking about cable organization OdinLake does provide a handful of Velcro cable ties, but you’ll definitely need more than that if you want to really have a cable-less look to this desk. I opted to install a under-desk cable management tray and used some cable management clips. With that I was able to easily organize all of the cables coming from the motors and controller and mount my power strip under the desk so I just have a single cable coming down off the desk.
When it comes to using the desk it is quite easy. The controller has up and down buttons which allow you raise or lower the desk. There are also three buttons that you can program to specific heights and a small display that shows you the actual height the desk is at. Programming a height into the controller is quite easy. All you have to do is put the desk at the height you want, press the “S” button and then either 1, 2, or 3 and it will be saved. Moving the desk up and down the motors are quite responsive and it pretty quite too. For those wondering the desk will support up to 275 lbs. The lowest point that you can set the desk to is 24.2-inches off the ground, while the highest point is 49.8-inches off the ground.
I am currently using the desk as part of our test bench setup so I just have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse on it. For reference again I have the 55″x27″ desktop and the monitor that is sitting on the desk is a 27-inch. You could easily fit a normal mid tower PC case like a Thermaltake Ceres 300 to the side of the monitor no problem. I would say if anything the holes towards the top-edge of the desktop could get in the way of a larger PC case. Sadly there is no option to get the desktop without the pre-drilled holes and grommets.
