Setup & Usage of the AOC 16T3EA

Getting this monitor setup and running is extremely easy. You can set it on either side of your laptop or other device, pop out the stand, and simply plug in the USB cable. You’ll see it turn on and you’ll be good to go. Within Windows on your device you can set whether you want your display mirrored or extended onto the 16T3EA.

As I mentioned, the USB connection is the only available connection on the 16T3EA. This USB connection supports DisplayPort over USB alternate mode and power delivery up to 15W, so your device will need to support that. Being USB-only does limit things as we’ve seen other portable monitors with mini-HDMI connections in addition to the USB.

Being a 15.6-inch 1080p screen you’ll want to make sure you have Windows scaling set at 100% at a minimum. You can easily view websites and the text looks just fine for word processing, e-mails, and other productivity apps.

The cool thing about the 16T3EA is that it does have the built-in stand not only for landscape mode, but for portrait mode too! This way you can have a tall and long screen which is great for coding or having two windows on top of each other. My only gripe with this is that the USB cable sticks out the top. Obviously you could remedy this with a 90-degree USB cable.

Pressing the “OK” button on the top-edge of the screen brings up the on-screen menu and you can navigate it with the other three buttons. You have all of the options you would expect and everything is easy to find.

I used the Datacolor SpyderX Pro to do some measurements on the screen. The first is to measure the gamut coverage. The 16T3EA covers 64% of the sRGB color space, which is what you would expect from a budget monitor like this.

When it comes to brightness we measured up to 208.4 nits, which is very close to the advertised 211 nits.
