Final Thoughts
Well as of writing this review, this 7200 MHz Viper Venom kit from Patriot is the fastest DDR5 that we’ve ever tested! This type of speed was of course made possible by Patriot making use of SK Hynix A-die chips. With this speed the Viper Venom was at the top of our DDR5 charts and remember this speed is a 1 GHz faster than their first generation Viper Venom kit what we reviewed last year! Now the only caveat to memory this fast is that you are going to need the hardware to support it. This memory would not run on a Core i9-12900K and our ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard. So you’ll need a Core i9-13900K processor and Z790 motherboard to even run this memory at its XMP profile.
With such a high XMP frequency I wasn’t expecting to really be able to push this memory all that far, but I was able to get it to run at 7466 MHz at the same XMP timings of 34-42-42-84, but I did have to increase the voltage to 1.5V.
Beyond the speed and overclocking I am a big fan of the Viper Venom design, especially since Patriot is offering non-RGB versions which we of course have here. Some people just don’t want RGB and the plain black on the top edge of the memory just looks great and will match pretty much any motherboard out there. Also the heatspreaders are very attractive with their black, silver, and red design. Another thing I noticed compared to other DDR5 modules I’ve reviewed is that these just feel heavier, which means Patriot is using a more heavy-duty heatspreader.
Right now you can pick up this kit at our favorite online retailer for $149.99, which I feel is a great price for the speed and quality of this memory! Overall ThinkComputers gives the Patriot Viper Venom DDR5-7200 32GB Memory Kit a 9 out of 10 score.
Pros:
– The fastest memory we’ve ever tested
– Uses SK hynix A-die
– Sleek overall design
– Heavy heatspreaders
– Available in RGB and non-RGB versions
Cons:
– Need the latest hardware for it to run
